Adib Sobhani

Born in 1986 in Sanandaj, Iran

After completing a course in filmmaking at the Iranian Youth Cinema Society in Sanandaj, Adib Sobhani entered the world of short films and began his career as a cinematographer. Following several years of active involvement in short films, he transitioned into professional cinema, with his first collaborations being his work as an assistant to renowned Iranian cinematographers Mahmoud Kalari and Hossein Jafarian. He went on to work on 30 feature films as an assistant cinematographer and lighting director, most notably on Asghar Farhadi’s ‘The Salesman’.

In 2016, Adib gained his first experience as director of photography on a feature film with his work on ‘Amir’, directed by Nima Eghlima, garnering attention for the film’s unique compositional style.

To date, he has worked as director of photography on ten feature films, one feature-length documentary, and twenty short films. His work has been featured at prestigious international film festivals including those in Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, and Karlovy Vary.

He was selected for the 31st edition of EnergaCAMERIMAGE for his work on the film ‘Beyond the Wall’, a project for which he won the award for Best Cinematography at the CYRUS Film Festival in Toronto in 2023.
